East Africa drought pushes up food prices

The drought affecting the eatern horn of Africa is affecting the price of basic foodstuffs throughout Kenya.

Sunshine Home project director Simon KInyanjui reports:
"We thank God for the rains over the past few days, but the cost of food has shot up due to inflation. We are buying food at more than double what we had budgeted."

Marathon - I made it!

Martin managed to complete his 7th Marathon in just over 6 hours! Although he tried hard to come last, he was beaten to it by 2 even slower runners. "I am delighted I have made my sponsorship target," said Martin, "but I'm happy if anyone still wants to sponsor me!"

Footsteps trustee Martin Print is running his 7th marathon on 14th May, 2011. He's also organsing the event - the MARAFUN - in which 400 runners and walkers will take part in a day of fun, fitness and fund-raising. Mwinyi gets new wheels

When we first met Mwinyi 5 years ago he could only crawl on his hands and knees, so, with the help of Footsteps supporters, we bought him a mobility aid which enabled him to get around (photo far right), and, importantly, to go to school.
He's grown a bit since then, and so this week he was given a new tricycle to help him get around, much to the excitement of his school friends (photo right). The trike is made at the APDK Bombolulu workshop which employs disabled workers to make them.

Rotary party enjoy visit to Footsteps projects

Five members of the Rotary Club of Bromley enjoyed a week-long visit to Kenya during which they crammed in a visit to the Church on the Rock School to see the buildings which need urgent repair, a visit to the Sunshine Home to meet our ex-street boys, 2 Rotary club meetings and a safari to Lake Nakuru national park.
They also officially opened the Sunshine Borehole, a project funded jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Bromley and Nakuru and Rotary International.

Simon recovers from throat op

We give thanks to God that Simon Kinyanjui, project director of the Sunshine Home, has come through a throat operation and is now recovering at home!
